Financial reports should do more than support your tax return.
They should help you make business decisions.
A current profit-and-loss statement, balance sheet, and cash-flow review may help you answer questions such as:
- Can the business afford to hire?
- Should prices be increased?
- Which expenses are growing?
- Is the business becoming more profitable?
- How much can the owner reasonably withdraw?
- Is enough cash available for upcoming bills?
- Is one client responsible for too much revenue?
- Can the business afford a major purchase?
You do not need to analyze every line of every report.
But you should understand the key numbers that affect your business.
Financial reports are most useful when they are accurate, current, and reviewed regularly. Reports that are several months behind may not help you make decisions about what is happening today.
This is also why bookkeeping should not be treated as a once-a-year project.
TNT Accounting Services helps established service-based business owners maintain current records, prepare for taxes, and better understand their financial position.
If your reports create more confusion than clarity, schedule a consultation to discuss your accounting needs.
